Meridian Energy

Meridian is a leading energy generator and retailer across New Zealand. They are purely focused on renewable energy and have a range of assets including hydro, wind, solar and an expanding EV charging network. New technology like home solar, storage and EVs are creating an interconnected ecosystem of energy products and services that are changing how energy retailers interact with customers. Meridian are lighting the way for customers as they navigate through these changes.

We have been working closely with Meridian retail teams as they shift to a more customer centric and innovation focused business. Walking alongside internal squads we evolved their retail dual-brand strategy, visual identity and digital design ecosystem. Designed for the new ways we will interact with power in the future.

Brand strategy. Product innovation. Internal engagement. Identity. Digital design.

Using the southern sky as a guide—we developed a flowing aurora australis gradient using the blues, teals and pinks of the colour palette in a constantly shifting glow. A feeling of calm, control and energy. It reflects Meridian’s role as an expert navigator, supporting New Zealanders through their energy transition.

Replacing outdated illustration, imagery of people interacting with modern energy services are a leading part of the identity. Video imagery and FVP drone footage reinforce the relationship between the extraordinary places where Meridian generate energy and the home environments where their customers interact and use energy.

To provide focus and to ensure legibility and readability, misted panels provide clarity and elevation for typography. A monospaced version of Centra No.2 has been added to the toolkit providing a useful element for technical details and data particularly in digital apps and services.

Working with Lovework Studio has been an exceptional experience, one marked by genuine trust, deep empathy, and a powerful spirit of collaboration. From our very first interaction, the team demonstrated an intuitive grasp of our needs at a human level. They approach each project with thoughtful care, actively listening and creating space for mutual respect and co-creation. This culture of trust laid the foundation for a productive and creatively liberating partnership. What sets Lovework apart is their unwavering empathy for the people and communities they design for. They take the time to understand context, whether personal, cultural, or commercial, and use that insight to shape work that is not only beautiful, but also deeply resonant. Their ability to see beyond the brief and connect with the underlying intent of a project is a rare and invaluable quality. Lovework’s business model is as dynamic as it is inspiring. Their flexible and internationally connected structure has enabled meaningful collaborations across borders, time zones, and disciplines. This global approach doesn’t dilute their work but enhances it. By fostering a creative community that thrives across geographies, they bring together diverse perspectives that enrich every outcome. Perhaps most importantly, Lovework consistently demonstrates a remarkable sensitivity to cultural nuance. Their work is deeply respectful of place and people, with a thoughtful engagement in the cultural fabric of Aotearoa and te ao Māori. This commitment to cultural integrity enriches their design practice and fosters genuinely meaningful connections. Lovework Studio isn’t just a creative partner, they’re an ally. Their combination of emotional intelligence, strategic clarity, and design excellence makes them a standout force in the industry. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
